Evinrude outboard motors use four stroke engines in their smaller models and two stroke engines in their larger models. Bombardier introduced the E-TEC direct fuel injection technology in the outboard motors in place of FICHT technology. The new technology enhanced noise levels, reduced emissions, oil usage, fuel efficiency, and required less maintenance.
The new E-TEC technology was recognized by the European Union and was the first to win the American Environmental Protection Agency 2005 Clean Air Excellence Award.
Since the introduction of E-TEC technology the Evinrude outboard motors have become more durable, reliable, and produce better quality than other outboard motors. These motors deliver more torque, more horsepower than the competing four-strokes. E-TEC technology produces lesser emissions and brings less weight per horse. This means better handling and faster hole shots.
