This is a 1957 Evinrude Fleetwin 7.5hp running in a test tank. These small motors are neat and really dependable.

All of these older models, you adjust both high and low speed setting all the way in to a seated position then turn both out 1.5 turns to initially start engine, then you set the high speed first at full throttle to get the best setting then you set the low speed after that.

An old guy I met who restores old boat motors, gave me this one. He also has a 1906 Johnson.

My Dad Use To Have a Motor Identical To This One & I Will Say……These Are Perhaps The ” BEST ” Little Fishing Motors Out There ! I Use To Love Running My Dad’s Motor Whenever Possible. 1 Pull Start & You Were Off Running !

I have a 58 fleetwin on my boat, it seems to be really touchy with the rich/lean mixes. Both high speed and low speed. Every new tank of gas I have to re-adjust them to get the motor to run right or else it will bog at WOT and die when back trolling at low RPMs. But I love the motor to death.

i have the EXACT same motor; unfortunately the geardog is worn, so it jumps out of gear as the revs build. I’d love to know what it costs to fix

I have one too that I put a fuel pump on. Now I need to change the impeller but I’ve heard you have to pull the powerhead? Is this difficult?

Thanks for the help everyone. I am in the process of trying to get the plate of the flywheel. I believe I need a flywheel puller? I am currently trying to secure one of those. I will let you know what happens. Thanks again.

The first thing you need to do is take the rope starter off (you will need to remove the cowling and the choke and low speed adjustment knob), then take the plate off the top of the fly wheel and take a look at the coils. If they are cracked, they need to be replaced. The coils are the big round things. If they look good, check the points and make sure they are adjusted correctly. they should be .020 inch gap. Spark plugs should have .030 gap. Good luck! I have a 1957 fleetwin 7.5 hp.

I just bought a jon boat that has a 1954 7.5 Johnson. It isn’t running but the guy said it was 2 weeks ago. Doesn’t have any spark. Don’t know much about these motors. Where should I start?

Which gasket do you need? You can still get most parts from your Evinrude dealer or sometimes NAPA carries knock off parts thru Sierra Marine.
