1928 Johnson TR-40 “Giant Twin” antique outboard 25hp

This is the largest 2 cylinder outboard ever at 50 cu.in. producing 25.75 hp.

    These engines were known to “kick’ when starting, particularly when they were warm. Even with the compression release valve (in the left cylinder) this puppy could give a real surprise when pulling that starting cord.

    Nice motor! @ hitace Johnson started selling in 1922 not 1929

    That’s cool to be able to hear a 2 stroke from so long ago. Still has that basic sound to it.

    sounds like a really low revving, deep tone (large displacement) weed eater. Neat find though.

    I can’t date it, but great engine
    Late 1960′s OMC made air cooled 440 based loosly on the older outboards. SMooth engines…..
